There are quite a few Van Beek's (and Verbeek's) at our department, two of whom also happen to have the first name Bert. Therefore, if you want to be sure that the mail is properly delivered, it helps if you use my D.A. initials instead of Bert or B.

Destination railway station is Eindhoven.
I have created a Google map that shows the main TU/e buildings, and the walking path from the railway station to the university.
To find hotels in the neighborhood of the university go to http://booking.com and enter as destination: “Station Eindhoven” (or “landmark:Station Eindhoven”, without the quotes). Sort the list by “distance”. This will give you the hotels closest to the station. The Holiday Inn hotel is not closest to the station, but it is closest to the university, since it is situated at the north side of the station, whereas the other hotels are at the south of the station. The university is also at the north of the station. Some info on the hotels in order of proximity to the university:
Markt is the most central part of Eindhoven with lots of terraces to sit, relax and have a drink. The centre of Eindhoven is a pedestrian area, no cars are allowed.
There are also two budget hotels:
Both hotels are situated at the Wilhelminaplein. A very nice place with bars and hotels, not so close to the university as “Markt”, but still within walking distance, and also both on http://booking.com.
To show these hotels in the Google map, type hotel in the “Search maps” box. This will show several hotels on the map, including ones that I mentioned.
Unfortunately, the university does not arrange any discounts for hotels.
In the Google map find the following locations as follows (without the quotes):
For walking directions, use the normal Google “Get directions”. Initially, you can only select “By car”. After the directions have been generated, you can choose “Walking” instead of “By car”. However, the results are not perfect:
See the Google map for the “Zwarte Doos” and the main entrance to the TU/e.
Location: Zwarte Doos, Room 1.04.
Dinner Wednesday evening in the University club in the main building. The university club is reached as follows: From the main entrance (revolving door) of the main building, you take the wooden stairs up to the first floor. You then continue straight on. After crossing an intersection, the university club is the first opportunity to your left (entry via glass doors).
Obsolete: Info of previous meetings.
